Pokemon Indigo League is the first season of the original Pokemon series, which aired in Japan from 1997 to 1999. It aired in the US from 1998 to 2000, first as a syndication and later on The WB, in South Korea from 1999 to 2000, and in India in 2003 on Cartoon Network. Pokemon is known in Japan as Pocket Monsters.

Directed by Masamitsu Hidaka, the Pokemon series takes place in the Kanto region and begins with the story of Ash Ketchum, a ten year-old Pokemon trainer in Pallet Town who is given a Pikachu by Pokemon teacher Professor Oak. In the course of his journey to become a master Pokemon trainer, Ash becomes friends with fellow Pokemon trainer Misty and Brock, a Pokemon breeder who leads the Pewter City gym. When Ash aspires to win the Indigo Plateau Pokemon League tournament, he enlists their help to collect gym badges and defeat gym leaders.

The Pokemon series now spans eight generations and 24 seasons, the most recent being Pokemon Master Journeys, which premiered in 2020.
