watch Ligue 1 live online

The 2024/25 Ligue 1 season will kick off on the weekend of August 17-18, 2024. The first fixtures include Paris Saint-Germain taking on Le Havre, Marseille facing Brest, and Lyon playing against Rennes. This season will run until May 18, 2025, with each team playing 38 matches.

You don’t need a season ticket to catch all of the action: keep reading to find out how you can livestream Ligue 1 games from the comfort of your own home!

It’s important to note that we’ll only be recommending official sources to live stream Ligue 1. Although unlicensed streams are rife online, you should know that these are often low-quality, unreliable, and prone to being taken offline during matches. With so many legitimate ways to watch, there’s nothing to be gained by using unofficial Ligue 1 streams.

Ligue 1 games will only be shown on geo-blocked streaming services, which means you’ll need a VPN to watch from abroad.

How to watch Ligue 1 online with a VPN

New to VPNs? Not sure where to start? Just follow the steps below and you’ll be streaming Ligue 1 matches in no time.

Here’s how to live stream Ligue 1 online from anywhere:

  1. Choose a VPN designed for HD streaming. We recommend NordVPN but Surfshark and ExpressVPN are two high-performance alternatives.
  2. Download and install the VPN software. There will be a few different versions, so be sure to get the right one for your operating system.
  3. Decide which of the sources below you’d like to use, then sign up. Note that you might need a payment method linked to an address in the required country.
  4. Connect to one of your VPN’s servers in the appropriate location. For instance, you’d use a British server for BT Sport, or a French one for Canal+.
  5. Try to watch a video on your chosen site. If you’re still getting errors, you might have to reload the page first. Afterward, content should play as normal.

UK

British viewers can stream Ligue 1 fixtures live and on-demand with TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport). This service allows users to watch either via the website or the TNT Sports mobile app. If you’re already a TNT Sports subscriber, just sign in and you’ll be able to watch at no added cost. Alternatively, you can sign up for a digital-only pass, which costs £25 per month.

To access BT Sport while traveling outside of the UK, you can simply connect to a UK VPN server. Don’t have one yet? NordVPN includes a 30-day money-back guarantee, meaning you can try it out risk-free. If it fails to impress, simply cancel within this time to claim a full refund.

USA

There are two Ligue 1 broadcasters in the US: beIN Sports and TV5 États-Unis. The former of these will show each fixture in English and Spanish, while the latter will have French commentary.

If you’re already a beIN Sports subscriber, you can sign into the website with your cable provider details. If you’d rather watch Ligue 1 online without cable, you should know that can’t actually sign up for either of these platforms directly. However, both networks are available on fuboTV ($79.98 USD per month for the base plan and the required TV5Monde addon) and Sling TV ($35 per month for the Blue package with beIN Sports or $45 for Blue with the French Bouquet addon).

These services are only available in the US. That said, you can access them abroad using a VPN.

France

In France, the majority of Ligue 1 fixtures (eight per week) will be shown on Amazon Prime Video. Technically, Canal also holds the rights to two per week, but won’t be showing any this season as it feels the Ligue gave Amazon favorable terms.

There is a slight catch, in that you’ll have to pay an extra €12.99 per month on top of the price of a Prime subscription. In other words, the total cost is €19.98 per month. Still, with around 80% of the competition being shown, this isn’t too bad.

If you want to watch Ligue 1 games while you’re abroad, you can use a VPN to spoof your location and get a French IP address.

Germany

DAZN has managed to snap up Ligue 1 broadcast rights in Germany. Soccer fans can tune in using either the web player or DAZN app for iOS or Android devices. Unfortunately, as well as nearly doubling its price to €29.99 per month, DAZN has also removed its free trial.

This platform has particularly strict geo-blocking and as a result, most VPNs will not be able to unblock it from outside of Germany.

South America

In South America (excluding Brazil), Ligue 1 broadcasting rights are shared by ESPN and DirecTV. As ever, you’ll be able to sign in with an existing cable TV subscription, but you could also sign up for DirecTV Go and watch Ligue 1 online without cable. This costs $258 MXD per month and comes with a seven-day free trial.

ESPN and DirecTV are region-locked and only showing these matches in South America. As such, you’ll need a VPN if you’re looking to stream Ligue 1 games abroad.

Other locations

Didn’t see your country above? No problem, the tournament’s organizers have put together a handy list of international Ligue 1 broadcasters. It’s worth mentioning that not all of these will let you watch online, though, so it pays to know who’s showing the matches ahead of time so you can do your own research.

Can I watch Ligue 1 soccer with a free VPN?

Free VPNs can seem tempting at first glance, but we advise against using them for several reasons. First and foremost, they don’t provide the same quality of connection. With limited server networks and a never-ending influx of users, you’ll find that free VPNs struggle to load live HD video smoothly. With data caps and queues, this process only becomes more frustrating for the user.

Free VPNs pose a threat to your hardware and personal information. In 2016, one study showed that dozens of free VPN apps for Android actually attempted to install malware onto their users’ devices. Even if you use a well-established free VPN, there are no guarantees; we’ve seen high-profile free VPNs sell their users’ bandwidth for use in a botnet before. To protect yourself and your personal information, we recommend using a trusted VPN with a privacy policy that puts its users first.

2024/25 Ligue 1 season: full schedule

With hundreds of matches set to take place over almost a year, there are just too many to list here. However, you can find up-to-date information (including the results and stats from past fixtures) on the official Ligue 1 calendar.

Do I need a fast VPN to stream La Ligue?

Yes. If you want to enjoy streaming the premier French football league in HD, we strongly recommend using a fast VPN.

There are dozens of VPNs on the market, and many of those services have inferior servers, badly implemented apps, and slower VPN tunneling protocols. This type of VPN will cause constant buffering and lead to low picture quality, as a result of which you’ll find it hard to keep track of players and could miss a goal due to the spinning circle.

The VPNs recommended in this guide to watch La Ligue have been selected because they invest in advanced app development and high-quality servers. This ensures that your internet will keep running at close to the same speed as usual (without the VPN).

If your ISP is throttling your internet, these VPNs could even help to speed your internet back up to its full potential. This will ensure you can watch games without pulling your hair out!
