ProtonVPN is best-know for its free plan, which it claims to offer due to a belief in privacy as a fundamental human right. While this is commendable, the free plan is unfortunately no good for streaming. It’s not very fast, and it doesn’t let users choose which country they connect to.

The paid plan, however, gives you access to a vast network of 11,500 servers in 117 countries. Users can connect straight to Italy by selecting it from the map on the app’s dashboard.

Alternatively, they can use the drop-down menu in the country list to choose between any of the servers in Milan or Palermo.

So, our team has put together a comprehensive testing process that evaluates providers in five key areas. This not only allows us to identify the VPNs that are best for streaming Italian TV but also gives you a better understanding of what you’re paying for. Here are the areas we focused on:

Every VPN will slow down your connection slightly.
