Atlas VPN offers significantly better deals as long as you are willing to pay upfront for a year or more. However, if you would prefer to pay month to month, VyprVPN is slightly better value.

When paying by the month, VyprVPN carries a price of $10 per month, while Atlas VPN has a cost of $10.99 per month.

If you are willing to pay for an entire year upfront, Atlas VPN costs $49.01 annually, which equals about $4.08 per month. VyprVPN’s annual price is $60 (or $5 per month).

Atlas VPN’s advantage is even more significant when you agree to pay for three years upfront. In this plan, Atlas VPN gives you an additional three months for free and charges you $71.49 over the three-year period, which is equal to about $1.83 per month. VyprVPN does not offer a three-year plan.

Features

Atlas VPN lets you connect an unlimited number of devices. It holds an edge against VyprVPN, which limits you to 10 simultaneously connected devices. This is still an improvement for VyprVPN versus a couple of years ago when the service limited you to five devices connected simultaneously.

Both VyprVPN and Atlas VPN make apps for all the primary operating systems you’d expect, including Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and Linux.

Atlas VPN supports a few streaming devices, too, like Android TV and Amazon Fire TV. With both VPNs, set-top boxes and routers require manual setup, which may be more complicated than simply installing an app.

VyprVPN has more extensive split tunneling, which allows you to select whether certain apps must use the VPN or can skip it. VyprVPN supports split tunneling on the Android and macOS apps, while Atlas VPN supports split tunneling on its Android app only.

Streaming and unblocking

A popular reason for subscribing to a VPN is to access streaming services when traveling abroad. The VPN makes it appear as though you are still at home by changing your IP address to spoof your location.

Which of these VPNs work in China?

If you travel to China regularly, you may already understand some of the challenges associated with using the internet in that country. The government uses aggressive censorship techniques to filter internet content, including blocking VPN connections, VPN websites, and VPN app store pages. Some VPNs that can operate in most places in the world will not work in China at all.

VyprVPN is one of a limited number of VPNs able to operate from inside China. It has a proprietary encryption tool (Chameleon) that is able to bypass the Great Firewall. Atlas VPN, meanwhile, does not work inside China.

Note: Even though VyprVPN works within China, you cannot access the VyprVPN website from inside the country. You have to download and subscribe to VyprVPN before you arrive in China. Make sure you’re all set up before you leave home.

VyprVPN vs Atlas VPN: Setup and interface

Both VyprVPN and Atlas VPN are easy to set up and use. Even those new to using a VPN can sign up for either of these services with minimal hassle.

After the setup process, using either of them is pretty easy, too. Neither VyprVPN nor Atlas VPN have cluttered user interfaces, so you can find the settings you want to use in a short amount of time. They both have well-organized menus.

If you’re a Linux user, VyprVPN’s automatic setup wizard will work with your device. Although Atlas VPN does not support Linux with its setup wizard, it matches VyprVPN in the other devices it supports (Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android). You can install Atlas VPN on the Linux Ubuntu operating system through a command line interface app.

Servers and performance

If you plan to travel, selecting a VPN that offers servers in multiple countries is an important consideration. VyprVPN has nearly double the number of countries available to its subscribers versus Atlas VPN.

VyprVPN serves all the primary countries you’d expect – as does Atlas VPN. However, once you move beyond North America and Europe, VyprVPN has more options. VyprVPN’s servers appear in areas of the Middle East and South America where Atlas VPN does not have servers. VyprVPN also has servers in China, as we mentioned earlier, while Atlas VPN does not.

The two services offer a similar total number of servers, and both have several servers located in different US cities.

The average speeds that both VyprVPN and Atlas VPN offer are similar. Both have more than enough speed to handle the needs of the average user, including those who want to stream video in HD or 4K resolution.

Both services are especially fast in North America. VyprVPN averages 395 Mbps in North America, while Atlas VPN averages 349 Mbps. VyprVPN has the speed edge in Europe as well, reaching 228 Mbps on average, compared to the 180 Mbps Atlas VPN offers. However, in Asia, Atlas VPN has the greater average speeds at 212 Mbps to 151 Mbps for VyprVPN.

Security

VyprVPN and Atlas VPN both have plenty of security protocols that deliver the features you want in a VPN.

Among VPN protocols, both services support WireGuard and IKEv2. WireGuard is a lightweight open-source protocol that delivers the security you need without hindering the performance of the device. IKEv2 is a protocol that helps mobile devices re-establish dropped connections quickly.

VyprVPN adds support for the OpenVPN protocol. It also offers a proprietary VPN protocol called Chameleon, which is a scrambling technology that masks your VPN traffic. Chameleon is a key reason why VyprVPN works in China.

Atlas VPN and VyprVPN both use a 256-bit ChaCha20 encryption tunnel to protect your internet traffic. Neither your ISP nor hackers can see your activity because of this tunnel.

Although Atlas VPN has a longer encryption key at 4096 bits than VyprVPN’s 2048 bits, both are sufficient and are considered secure by experts.

Both services offer a kill switch, but VyprVPN’s is only available for the desktop version. Atlas VPN’s kill switch is available both on desktop and mobile devices.

VyprVPN vs Atlas VPN: Privacy

Because VyprVPN operates out of Switzerland, it can take advantage of that country’s extremely strong data privacy laws. It does not keep any connection or activity logs of users’ activity.

Atlas VPN operates out of the United States, which could cause some privacy concerns. US authorities could force the VPN to monitor activity logs if they can obtain a court order regarding the potential of a major crime occurring. Additionally, because the United States is a member of an intelligence alliance called Five Eyes, it could share any of this type of surveillance data with other Five Eyes members.

On its own, Atlas VPN does not track activity logs, but it does track minimal connection data about device-level identifiers, helping it understand user engagement.

VyprVPN requires your name and email address at the time of signup, while Atlas VPN only requires an email address. You could pay for your Atlas VPN subscription with any of a few payment options, including cryptocurrencies. (If you pay with a credit card, you’ll reveal your name to Atlas VPN, even though you didn’t need it at the time of signup.) VyprVPN does not accept cryptocurrency.

Configuration

You’ll use the shared IP configuration model with both Atlas VPN and VyprVPN, which means the service mixes everyone’s IP traffic together, preventing snoops from picking out a single user’s IP traffic. This helps with maintaining anonymity.

Atlas VPN does not offer dedicated IP addresses, which are exclusive to a single account. VyprVPN does offer them, but you would have to subscribe to VyprVPN Cloud, which costs several hundred dollars per year and is more of an enterprise tool.

Neither service offers static IP addresses.

Both Atlas VPN and VyprVPN provide NAT firewalls, which helps to keep unwanted traffic from reaching your home network.

Customer service

Versus other VPN services, both VyprVPN and Atlas VPN do a good job with responsiveness from their customer service teams.

Both services offer live chat support 24/7, incident ticket submissions, and email support. However, Atlas VPN receives the nod here, because our tests show that its responses to email customer service requests were faster than VyprVPN. Atlas VPN responded in an extremely fast 45 minutes on average, while VyprVPN’s 3-hour average response time was still better than the typical VPN service.

Neither one offers telephone support, but this is no surprise. Most VPNs don’t have phone support.

Both Atlas VPN and VyprVPN have a searchable knowledge base of self-help documents on their websites. If you prefer help via video, only Atlas VPN has its own YouTube channel with multiple help videos. (However, Atlas VPN hasn’t updated its YouTube channel in at least two years.) VyprVPN’s YouTube channel offers marketing videos, rather than self-help videos.

Although it was a close call, we gave Atlas VPN the nod in the VyprVPN vs Atlas VPN comparison.

Both services are easy to use, and both have strong security features. Basically, they both deliver what they promise and what we expect to receive from a VPN, including excellent speed for using streaming services. Both guard your privacy, and both of them made our list of the best VPN services.

Because their feature sets are so similar, our decision primarily came down to price points. Atlas VPN delivers its features for a far lower price than VyprVPN if you are willing to pay up front for a year or longer. This price advantage is especially impressive when you consider that Atlas VPN gives you an unlimited number of simultaneous connections for your devices. VyprVPN limits you to 10 simultaneous connected devices.

Having said that, if your specific needs match up better with the features in VyprVPN, its higher price is not a deal breaker. For example, if you know you will need to use the service from inside China, VyprVPN is the only choice, as Atlas VPN does not work inside China. VyprVPN also provides service for more countries than Atlas VPN, especially outside of North America and Europe.

Atlas VPN has slightly better customer service performance and gives you the option of remaining completely anonymous when you sign up for the service by allowing you to pay via cryptocurrency.

VyprVPN operates out of Switzerland, which means end users receive the benefit of that country’s favorable privacy laws.

We could go back and forth all day. Ultimately, even though we selected Atlas VPN as the winner, you can’t go wrong subscribing to either service.
