Are you tired of constantly changing IP addresses and longing for a stable online presence? A static IP, also known as a dedicated IP address, can be the perfect solution. With a static IP, you’ll enjoy the same unchanging address each time you connect without sharing it with anyone else.
Static IPs come in handy for various situations. They allow you to bypass online service restrictions tied to specific IP addresses. Moreover, if you’re hosting an online service, having a dedicated IP ensures reliable connectivity for your users.
Unfortunately, from our experience, most VPNs and internet service providers don’t offer static IPs by default. ISPs allocate dynamic IP addresses that change as devices connect and disconnect. On the other hand, VPNs commonly employ shared IP addresses, which enhance privacy by preventing online activities from being traced back to individual users.
However, shared IPs can pose challenges when accessing certain websites, apps, and services or facing censorship systems. That’s where static IPs shine! From our research, they are less likely to be blacklisted, offering smoother browsing experiences and reducing encounters with CAPTCHAs. Moreover, you can easily secure and conveniently access your smart home system or business servers.
In this article, we’ll reveal the top VPN providers that offer static or dedicated IP addresses. Join us as we explore the different options available and discuss their advantages. We will also outline the benefits (and disadvantages) of dedicated IP addresses. Say goodbye to IP fluctuations and welcome a more consistent online experience. Let’s dive in!

4. CyberGhost
Apps Available:
- PC
- Mac
- IOS
- Android
- Linux
Website: www.Cyberghost.com
Money-back guarantee: 45 DAYS
CyberGhost recently added a dedicated IP option to its service that users can add for an extra fee. CyberGhost’s dedicated IP is more private than other providers because the company does not know what IP address it has assigned you. Instead, users are given a token. Users redeem the token in their app, which allows you to connect to your dedicated IP with no ties to your CyberGhost account.
The downside to this approach is that you only get one token. If you lose it, you’ll no longer have access to your dedicated IP. You’ll need the token whenever you activate a new CyberGhost app or reinstall an existing app.
CyberGhost users get more than 60 countries to choose from. It meets all of our performance and security standards including strong encryption, leak protection, and a kill switch. It’s great for unblocking region-locked content and speeds are fast enough for HD video streaming. CyberGhost doesn’t store any identifying logs about its users or their online activity.
Pros:
- Token-based dedicated IP is more private than rivals
- Strong security
- No logs
- Great for streaming
- Good speeds
Cons:
- Dedicated IP is a paid add-on
- User must store and protect their own token
Our score:
PRIVATE AND DEDICATED:CyberGhost's dedicated IP option takes your privacy into account. It comes with a 45-day money-back guarantee.

It provides the option of dedicated IP addresses in multiple countries including the US and Canada. Overall, PIA has speeds that are more than fast enough for streaming in high definition (in fact, it makes our list of the fastest VPNs). It also won’t throttle your bandwidth.
You can use PIA to connect as many as 10 devices at the same time which is great if you’d like to share with family. Indeed, all devices will be highly secure thanks to its use of 256-bit AES encryption. Further security features include DNS leak protection and a kill switch. This is also a no-logs service so information such as your actual IP address and browsing history are for your eyes only.

Finding the best VPNs for getting a dedicated or static IP: our methodology
Not all VPNs offer the option of dedicated or static IPs. Even fewer of these VPNs are of good quality! Our methodology involves extensive research and hands-on testing of each VPN as well as looking for the following features:
- Dedicated or static IP addresses: Each VPN in this post offers you the option of obtaining a dedicated or static IP address. The difference is that a dedicated IP address is used only by you. A static IP may be shared with other users but will remain the same each time you connect to the server. While static IP addresses are often free, dedicated IP addresses are almost always a paid extra.
- Servers worldwide: It doesn’t hurt to have access to more servers in more locations. This only makes it easier to access content and find a fast server near your location. We looked for VPNs with servers in dozens of countries. We also sought those VPNs that ideally offer dedicated and static IP addresses in multiple locations.
- Speed: Some of the VPNs we’ve covered (such as NordVPN and Surfshark) are among the fastest VPNs we’ve tested. Their high-speed connections make them ideal for streaming in high resolution (even in 4K). With unlimited bandwidth, they also allow you to torrent as much as you like without having to worry about connection throttling.
- Unblocking: One of the main benefits of a VPN is that it should allow you to access geo-blocked content. This may be a popular streaming service, a news site, social media platform, or even your online banking account. This makes VPNs particularly useful if you travel abroad on a regular basis. We aimed to find VPNs with consistent unblocking.
- Security: At the very least, a quality VPN will provide 256-bit AES encryption, DNS leak protection, and a kill switch. Where possible, we look for VPNs to offer extra security options, be it an ad blocker, access to a password manager, Double VPN servers, or auto wifi protection. You then have the choice of activating the extras should you wish.
- Privacy: Aside from providing protection from security threats, a VPN should protect your privacy from snoopers. This may be your ISP or even your country’s government. For this reason, it’s essential you use a VPN that doesn’t keep identifying logs of users. We looked at 140 VPN logging policies and identified those which keep you safe online.
- Ease of use: Not all VPN apps are easy to use, especially for beginners. That doesn’t have to be the case, however. The best VPNs let you connect to a server in just a click or two. If you need help, 24/7 live chat and email support will be at hand. There should also be plenty of setup and troubleshooting guides should you need them.
- Value for money: Even if you add on the extra fee that comes with a dedicated IP, the VPNs listed in this post remain remarkably affordable. One reason for this is the discount coupons we’ve provided for each VPN service in question. Notably, the VPNs we recommend also come with money-back guarantees so you can try them risk-free.
In order to find out if a VPN truly offers the above, we have to try it for ourselves, as part of our VPN testing methodology.
Dynamic and static IP addresses explained
On a typical residential internet service, you don’t get the same IP address every time you connect. Instead, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will allocate you an address from a pool that it owns. This system was invented to slow down the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses. The assumption is that the number of ISP customers that are connected at any one time is always lower than the total number of customers. Thus, the ISP can get away with owning fewer addresses by using a dynamic addressing system.
ISPs don’t usually use this system for commercial customers, particularly for those customers that run their own web servers. This is because the advertised IP address that is registered in DNS servers gets linked to the URL used for the company’s website. In these scenarios, the company would have to update every DNS server in the world whenever the ISP allocated a different address to the company’s connection service. This would be too complicated, so companies usually get a dedicated IP address for their web servers.
Many VPNs also assign dynamic IP addresses. Usually, VPN services own a small number of addresses for each of their servers. They allocate groups of customers at random to each of the addresses that they own as users connect. Some VPN services offer static IP addresses, by default or as an option.
A shared static IP address VPN service has advantages over the standard dynamic IP service. Where a static IP address is an optional addon, these addresses will tend to get less use than their dynamic counterparts. You might still have your internet freedom impaired owing to the actions of the other people sharing that IP address, but with fewer users sharing, the likelihood of that address ending up on a blacklist is going to be reduced.
The shared static IP address model is offered as standard on NordVPN’s service. This configuration doesn’t really give you many advantages over the dynamic IP address system offered by other VPNs. The only extra protection that you get from such a configuration is that if that one shared VIP address gets blacklisted, all of the customers of NordVPN are going to be crippled, so it is more likely that the company will change that address pretty quickly.
Many VPN companies refuse to offer dedicated IP addresses. This is because they are concerned with protecting the identities of their customers. Even if a VPN company didn’t keep IP address logs, a one-to-one mapping between a representative dedicated IP address and a customer can be uncovered very quickly through customer account details if anyone gets a court order for the VPN’s records. Any type of shared address formula enables the VPN provider a chance of blocking the traceability of connections through to the end user.
Dedicated IP addresses and their advantages
A dedicated IP address is not shared and is only assigned to one customer. There are various scenarios where a dedicated IP address might be useful, for example, for running a business or gaming.
Not everyone is looking for total anonymity. In particular, those who want their servers to be discovered don’t want privacy. The dedicated IP address is the quickest, cheapest, and easiest way to overcome the effects of the dynamic address allocation system that ISPs use.
With a dedicated IP address VPN, you can front your small business web server with a larger server that is capable of absorbing DDoS attacks and you can use a much cheaper residential internet service plan.
Privacy-conscious individuals can use the VPN as an address for a home games server and also get a fixed IP address that will enable them to connect to home computers running as file servers. With a dedicated IP address service, you can advertise your home server’s address without the worry of that address being changed periodically.
How much does a dedicated IP address cost?
If we look at the best VPNs for a dedicated IP address, we can see that a dedicated IP address usually costs around $3-4 (USD) a month. At the time of writing, a Dedicated IP with CyberGhost is $2.50 a month. NordVPN and Surfshark are slightly more expensive at $3.79 and $3.75/month respectively. This would equate to $30 (CyberGhost) or roughly $45 (NordVPN and Surfshark) a year.
Of course, you need to consider the fact that you need to purchase the VPN subscription as well. This may cost as little as $2-3 each month if you opt for a multi-year plan. Otherwise, you’re looking at around $5-6/month for a one year subscription or as much as $12-15/month for a month-to-month plan. Add this all together and you can pay as little as $5-8 a month for a VPN with a dedicated IP.
Static/Dedicated IP address FAQs
Does a dedicated IP VPN tend to cost more?
Yes, a dedicated IP VPN typically costs more than a shared IP VPN. Dedicated IPs are usually more expensive because they provide extra functionality and security, such as exclusive access to the server, no risk of being blocked or throttled due to other users’ activities, and easier whitelisting on certain services. Additionally, good quality dedicated IPs can be hard to find since they need to be bought from third-party providers, and not all providers offer them. However, if you need the extra features that come with a dedicated IP and you don’t mind paying for it, then it is definitely worth considering.
Are dedicated IPs safer?
Yes, dedicated IPs are generally safer than shared IPs. Dedicated IPs provide a layer of security as they can only be used by one user or server at a time, while with a shared IP, multiple users may share the same address. Therefore, any malicious activity originating from the same IP address could be traced back to the source or targeted more easily if it was a single user on a dedicated IP. Additionally, having a unique IP address can help protect against brute-force attacks or other cyber threats like phishing and malware since malicious actors would have difficulty targeting you when your address is not shared by anyone else.Â
Furthermore, some websites may require you to use a dedicated IP to access them, and since those websites are often more secure, having your own IP can make browsing those sites more secure. While shared IPs are generally safe to use, dedicated IPs offer an added layer of protection that can be beneficial in some cases.
That being said, it is important to note that having a dedicated IP alone does not guarantee safety or security from cyber threats. It is still important to practice good online security habits, such as using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication for accounts when possible, and avoiding clicking on suspicious links or attachments.
Are there any free static IP VPNs?
The vast majority of VPNs use rotating shared IPs, which means you can’t choose to connect to the same server each time. It is possible that you may be able to find a free VPN that does have some static IPs, however, we would generally recommend against using these for privacy and security reasons.
Static IPs can more easily be used to track your online habits back to you, and free VPNs are known to keep logs in order to track their users and create a revenue stream. This is the opposite of what a VPN is supposed to do, which is to provide online privacy.
Free VPNs have concerning privacy policies that allow them to sell your data to third parties such as advertisers and data brokers. They also often contain spyware in their apps to help track you.
Besides tracking their users, free VPNs are known to suffer from leaks, and lack encryption. This means that the VPN is failing to give you even the most basic of protection against tracking. As a result, local networks, websites, and ISPs will still be able to monitor what you are doing online.
This makes using free VPNs a huge risk to your data and the health of your devices. So, even if you do manage to locate one that has static IPs, we would strongly recommend against using it without carefully considering its previous reputation and privacy policies.
Are dedicated and static IP addresses the same thing?
A dedicated IP address is one that is assigned only to you. This is static in that it stays the same every time you connect (as opposed to a dynamic IP address which changes over time). While a dedicated IP address is a static IP address in that it doesn’t change, a static IP address isn’t always a dedicated IP address because it can be shared with other users connecting to the same server.
Why doesn't every VPN offer a static IP option?
Most VPNs provide access to dynamic IPs that change each time you connect to a server location. Users are assigned to these IPs automatically when they connect to the VPN, which allows the provider to engage in load management designed to prevent server congestion that causes slow speeds.
In addition to providing access to a pool of IPs in each location (assigned at random), most VPNs also primarily provide shared IPs. These IPs are used by multiple users each session, which mixes those users’ traffic together and helps to provide additional privacy.
VPNs that choose to provide dedicated static IPs have a pool of IPs that have been set aside to rent to individuals. This requires the VPN to have additional servers for this purpose, and not all VPN companies want to pay to have a pool of dedicated IPs set aside for subscribers who want them.
Which VPN has the best static IP for gaming?
NordVPN is considered one of the best VPNs for gaming, offering a dedicated IP address that ensures your identity and data are safe from hackers and other malicious actors. It provides a static IP address so that game servers can’t track or block your location.
A static IP address is beneficial for gaming as it provides a stable and dedicated internet connection that isn’t interrupted or influenced by other users’ online activities. This results in a smoother gaming experience with reduced latency and fewer connection issues. NordVPN’s fast connection speeds and extensive server network suit gaming.

Will my dedicated IP address be in the same location as the ISP? This is important.
I can’t have a IP address in NY and the ISP shows up as being in Dubai, or Siberia, or Great Britain … simply because it is a dead giveaway that you’re using a VPN … because, who in their right mind lives in Coxsackie, New York and contracts an ISP for their home internet in Australia (just an example)? No one.
So, I require a dedicated IP and ISP to be ALWAYS in the same location. Is this possible? NORD and CYBERGHOST say that it is not, as they use international servers for their dedicated IP addresses. What company will provide this?
check the provider’s list of dedicated IP locations.
Please check the VPNArea dedicated IP locations in your post. They don’t currently offer the service for several of the countries you mentioned.
Hi, VPNDad,
On the VPNArea Web page about dedicated IPs, the company lists the following locations:
USA – Dallas, Atlanta, New York, DC, LA
UK – London
Netherlands – Amsterdam
Romania – Bucharest
Sweden – Stockholm
Bulgaria – Sofia
Canada – Montreal
Australia – Sydney
Hong Kong
That corresponds to what I wrote in the review. However, I notice that in the purchase page, there are also options for North Carolina in the USA and Singapore. They also seem to have switched out Sweden for Germany. I will update the article.
Cheers,
Stephen

Nord VPN does not offer static IP as part of its basic service. They require you to open a second account on top of their regular service and pay approximately $70 a year for a static/dedicated IP address.
Nord VPN is great for a static/dedicated IP address.
Some servers that NordVPN provide in their basic service are static IPs, but they are not personal and a (personal) dedicated IP will run you 70$ on top of what you are paying. This is why I can only recommend CyberGhost to those looking for a (personal) dedicated IP (For a reasonable price).
Terrible experience with SurfShark. I needed a consistent static IP which they said they could provide. I didn’t need a dedicated IP, just the ability to connect to the same static IP consistently. No problem, I was told. All of a sudden last week I had no ability to connect to the static IP–finally after contacting the third customer service rep, they tell me, oh they are down for maintenance–and we have no idea when they will be back up. What? I received no notification whatsoever so that I could make plans accordingly. Their answer was basically “sorry not sorry”. The only good thing is that they are cheap, but I guess you get what you pay for.
NordVPN does NOT offer static IP addresses:
“Each server is assigned a certain number of IP addresses. Therefore, it’s likely that each time you connect to the same server you will get a different IP address.”

Dedicated IP addresses are available for an additional fee.
Hi, Oskari,
The situation you uncovered with your research into NordVPN’s static IP addresses is exactly as I described in this review. As I wrote in the NordVPN section above, “You can pay extra to get a dedicated IP address.”

Stephen
