Like the majority of streaming platforms available online, ITVX isn’t available everywhere. In fact, its content is only available to stream in the UK. In order to respect copyright and licensing agreements, ITV must ensure that ITVX content is unavailable to stream anywhere else. It does this by only accepting UK IP addresses. The good news is that a Virtual Private Network (VPN) helps you get around this.
WIth a VPN service, you can connect to a server in the UK from Ireland or any other location. In doing so, you’ll be assigned a UK IP address. This makes it look as if you’re streaming from that location, bypassing ITVX geo-blocks. A VPN will also allow you to watch BBC iPlayer and Netflix UK. It secures your browsing and streaming data with encryption, protecting you from hackers and snoopers alike.
How to watch ITVX from Ireland with a VPN
It may be that this is your first time using a VPN. If so, don’t worry. We’ll take you through what you need to do to get set up and watching ITVX from Ireland.
Here’s how you can use a VPN to stream ITVX from Ireland:
- Start by signing up with one of the VPNs listed below. We particularly recommend NordVPN.
- Next, download and install the VPN app that’s compatible with your streaming device. Most VPNs offer apps for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS at a minimum.
- Log in to the VPN app and connect to a VPN server in the UK. You’ll then have a UK IP address for watching ITVX from Ireland.
- Go to ITVX via its website or app. You’ll need to sign in or sign up for an account (this is free to do). Select your preferred content which should now stream without issue.
- If ITVX is still blocked, we recommend you clear your cookies and refresh your browser. Alternatively, try another server or get in touch with your VPN’s support.

How we found the best VPNs for watching ITVX: our methodology
Due to the sheer number of VPN providers available today, it’s well worth taking into account a variety of factors in order to help narrow down the options. Below, we’ll take you through our methodology which helped us identify the best VPNs for watching ITVX from Ireland:
- Servers in the UK: Of course, it’s crucial that every VPN included in this post offer UK servers. This is the only way to watch ITVX from Ireland (or indeed anywhere) because a UK IP address is required to access content. Notably, all of the VPNs we’ve covered have servers in dozens of countries including Ireland.
- Speed: When you’re looking to stream ITVX, you need a VPN with fast servers. Most of the VPNs we’ve covered offer the WireGuard protocol which is known for its fast speeds. Couple this with their offer of unlimited bandwidth and you’ll have one of the fastest VPNs for streaming. You shouldn’t encounter lag or buffering.
- Security: A VPN is supposed to secure your data and help protect you from hackers and snoopers. However, some VPNs fail to do this. That’s why it’s so important to seek a VPN that uses high-end encryption and protects you from leaks. For extra security, look for a VPN with extras such as MultiHop servers or a malware blocker.
- Privacy: Privacy is tied to security in that you can’t really have one without the other. A VPN secures your data and protects your privacy by encrypting your internet traffic. However, we also only look for VPNs that don’t keep identifying logs. We studied 140 VPN logging policies to find those you can trust.
- Ease of use: It’s fair to say that you don’t want to have to waste time trying to figure out a VPN. Instead, a VPN should be quick and easy to download and install. It should also be possible to connect to a server within one click of opening the app. We’ve found user-friendly VPNs with excellent apps and even live chat and email support.
- Value for money:Â Many VPNs only offer some of the above yet cost just as much (if not more) than the VPNs included in this post. You can get the best possible deal by clicking on the VPN discount coupons included above. All of these VPNs come with risk-free money-back guarantees of at least 30 days.
If you’d like to know more about our process of testing VPNs, our VPN testing methodology post should be of interest.

ITVX from Ireland: FAQs
Can I use a free VPN to watch ITVX from Ireland?
Many free VPNs will struggle to unblock ITVX as well as other geo-blocked streaming platforms such as BBC iPlayer or Now TV. Free VPNs attract a lot of users but offer very few servers and IP addresses in comparison. Most IP addresses quickly become blacklisted, making free VPNs very unreliable unblockers of content. Besides, free VPNs are too slow for streaming. Indeed, most engage in bandwidth throttling and this can severely hamper streaming due to lag.
Strong security and privacy protection are fundamental features of quality paid VPNs. The same can’t be said for free VPNs. Many free VPNs simply don’t invest enough in their security infrastructure. Your data may not be properly encrypted and your data may be vulnerable to leaks. Consider also how free VPNs make their money. It could spam you with ads (there may even be a risk of malware) or sell your logs.
Is it legal to use a VPN with ITVX?
First, it is legal to use a VPN with ITVX, regardless of whether you’re in the UK, Ireland, or overseas. However, it may go against the Terms of Use of ITVX which state that you must be in the United Kingdom to use its service. As such, it has the right to take action against your account, be it suspending or closing it entirely.
However, there’s no evidence this has happened to anyone for using a VPN. You may find that the VPN IP address you use is blocked by ITVX if it suspects it belongs to a VPN service. The good news is that you can get around this by switching servers and changing your IP address. The content should be unblocked again (you may need to clear your cookies).
Note: we are not lawyers and nothing in this article should be taken as legal advice.
What can I watch on ITVX?
On ITVX, you have the choice of watching a wide range of TV shows (some of which are ITVX exclusives) and movies, live or on-demand.
What’s particularly impressive is that it’s entirely free to watch. You only need to register for an account if you don’t have one already. A TV license is required in order to watch any content live but not if you’re only watching on-demand.
