Cash App might be one of the world’s most popular payment services, but it’s not available everywhere. You’ll run into problems if you try using it outside the US or UK. If you’re planning a trip abroad or just want to enhance your security, we’d recommend using a VPN for Cash App.
VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) encrypt your internet traffic, hiding what you get up to online from wifi hotspot owners and your service provider. They also change your IP address, though, allowing you to spoof your location and access services that normally aren’t available in your current location.
In this article, we’ll explain exactly how to use a VPN with Cash App and list the best VPNs for the job. We’ll go into each one in more detail later, but in case you’re short on time, here’s a quick summary.
The best VPNs for using Cash App anywhere:
- NordVPN: The best VPN for Cash App. Nearly 2,000 servers in the US and over 440 in the UK. Fast with lots of security features, a no-logs policy, 24/7 support, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

- PrivateVPN: Strong unblocking ability. Makes it easy to use Cash App and streaming services like Prime Video while abroad. User-friendly apps and particularly fast email support.

NordVPN is our top recommended VPN for Cash App. It’s a strong provider in all areas, making it an ideal choice for all of your security, browsing, and streaming needs. This VPN provider has more than 7,000 servers for you to choose from in around 60 countries. What’s particularly noteworthy is that some 2,000 of these servers are located in the US and over 440 in the UK. Needless to say, this makes it easy to access Cash App while you’re traveling abroad. NordVPN also works well with many popular streaming services.

NordVPN has a reputation for exceptional performance, but providers are constantly updating their infrastructure, so periodic retesting is crucial. Our team tried three of this provider’s US servers over the course of a day to see how fast and consistent their speeds actually were. You’ll find the results in the chart below:
This provider had an average speed of 205.84 Mbps with around 11 Mbps of fluctuation across all tests. That’s essentially unnoticeable, and a truly minimal amount of slowdown. In fact, as well as using Cash App, NordVPN is suitable for data-intensive tasks like streaming and torrenting.
Aside from impressive performance, NordVPN ticks all the boxes when it comes to security and privacy protection. It offers 256-bit AES encryption, protection from DNS and IPv6 leaks, and a kill switch. What’s more, it has a no-logs policy that has been independently audited by PwC. All of these features, plus the option of Double VPN and Onion Over VPN servers, make for a safer experience with Cash App. If you need help, know NordVPN has live chat and email support 24/7.
You’ll be able to connect up to 10 devices at the same time via NordVPN’s Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Linux, Amazon Fire TV, and Amazon TV apps. Browser extensions are offered for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. While NordVPN can be used with select routers, manual setup is required.
Buy this VPN if:
- You need extensive server coverage in the US for reliable Cash App access
- You want consistently fast speeds with minimal fluctuation
- You need a VPN with a security-focused approach backed by independent audits
- You want Double VPN for extra security layers when conducting financial transactions

Surfshark offers excellent value for money when you consider the speed and security offered. Overall, it now has more than 3,200 servers in 100 countries — far more locations than the vast majority of VPNs on the market. It’s also one of the fastest VPNs available. This provider can even access stubborn streaming platforms like Netflix, so using Cash App abroad won’t be an issue at all.

We’ve previously seen very high speeds from this provider so we went into this latest round of testing with high hopes. As before, we performed multiple tests at various times of day using its American servers. Let’s see how it fared:
Surfshark managed to provide stellar speeds, averaging 198.68 Mbps. That’s fast enough to handle any day-to-day task without the slightest bit of interruption. What’s even more impressive is that there was just 4 Mbps of difference between its highest and lowest results—that’s a level of consistency that many more expensive VPNs wish they could match.
There’s no limit to the number of devices you can connect with Surfshark, making this a particularly good option for sharing with family. Security includes 256-bit AES encryption, a kill switch, and DNS and IPv6 leak protection. It doesn’t stop there. You’ll also find MultiHop servers for when you need two layers of encryption — great for secure use with Cash App. A no-logs VPN service, Surfshark also provides support 24 hours a day.
Surfshark apps are available for all major operating systems: Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and Linux. You can also find them for Amazon Fire TV and Android TV while browser extensions are available for Chrome and Firefox. Surfshark can be manually installed on compatible routers too.
Buy this VPN if:
- You need unlimited simultaneous device connections for Cash App access across all your devices
- You’re on a budget but need excellent performance
- You want MultiHop servers for double encryption protection
- You need servers in 100+ countries for global Cash App access when traveling
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You want all premium features included without subscription upgrades
BEST VALUE VPN:Surfshark provides high-speed servers in more countries than most VPNs. Thanks to encryption, a no-logs policy, and MultiHop servers, it’s suitable for Cash App. Unlimited simultaneous connections. Includes a 30-day money-back guarantee.

IPVanish is compatible with Cash App as well as streaming services such as Netflix US. It offers over 2,400 servers in dozens of countries, so you can continue browsing as normal while overseas. There’s no limit to the number of devices you can connect at the same time with IPVanish. Furthermore, your subscription includes access to 24/7 support via live chat and email.

IPVanish has invested huge amounts of energy into pushing its performance as high as it can go. For instance, it introduced WireGuard support and rolled out 10 Gbps servers across its network. Our experts wanted to see just what it was capable of, so they ran tests at multiple times of day. Here are their findings:
With an average speed of 177.6 Mbps, IPVanish is much faster than you’ll need to use Cash App securely. In fact, you’ll be able to download large files in no time at all, making it a strong choice for anyone interested in torrenting, gaming, or streaming. It was remarkably consistent too, with very slightly slower speeds in the evening.
This zero-logs VPN service uses 256-bit AES encryption and DNS leak protection. It also has a kill switch that shuts down internet traffic should your VPN connection drop. IPVanish owns and operates its servers rather than renting them, which reduces the risk of third-party interference. It just added a tool that lets you make sure a link is safe before clicking it.
You can download IPVanish apps for Windows, Android, Mac, iOS, and Amazon Fire TV. While Linux and select routers are supported, you’ll need to manually configure the connection.
Buy this VPN if:
- You need unlimited simultaneous connections
- You want the ability to see the server load before connecting to ensure optimal performance
- You need consistently good speeds
- You want a VPN that owns and operates its own servers to reduce third-party interference
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You’re concerned about Five Eyes jurisdiction (US-based)
- You need anonymous payment options for your VPN subscription
FASTER THAN EVER:IPVanish has implemented WireGuard protocol and is more than fast enough for streaming. Works well with Cash App and has servers in nearly 20 US cities. Zero-logs policy and unlimited simultaneous connections. 30-day money-back guarantee on annual plans.

ExpressVPN has a generous network of over 3,000 servers. These are located across 105 countries, including the US and the UK, so you can easily access Cash App from any location. It’s one of the best VPNs for accessing geo-blocked content, and the fact that it works in high-censorship countries like China is another huge advantage over the competition.

Speed isn’t everything, but it is a major sticking point. After all, slow speeds could cause random disconnection from the VPN or repeated transfers on Cash App. We tested ExpressVPN’s US servers at three times of day (morning, noon, and afternoon) to see how quick it was. Let’s take a look at the results:
This provider delivered average speeds of 130.24 Mbps. While that’s a little bit lower than some of the services we’ve seen so far, it’s still significantly above what you’ll need for everyday tasks like using Cash App, watching TV, or browsing the web. There was minimal variance depending on the time we tested too, which is great.
This service includes 24-hour customer support via live chat and email, making it quick and easy to get help. However, its apps are beginner-friendly, and you can use them to connect up to eight devices simultaneously. Once connected, data is routed through a 256-bit AES-encrypted tunnel. Also included are DNS, IPv6, and WebRTC leak protection and a kill switch. Note that ExpressVPN doesn’t keep any logs by which you can be identified, allowing you to maintain online anonymity.
ExpressVPN has desktop (Windows, Mac, and Linux) and mobile (Android and iOS) apps. You’ll also find apps for Amazon Fire TV and Android TV, and there are Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browser extensions. Custom firmware is available for routers.
Buy this VPN if:
- You need servers in the most countries (105) for accessing Cash App abroad
- You want a VPN based in a privacy-friendly jurisdiction (British Virgin Islands)
- You need powerful obfuscation that in highly restrictive countries
- You want a VPN with custom router firmware for protecting all home devices
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You’re on a tight budget (ExpressVPN is more expensive than most)
STRONG ALL-ROUNDER:ExpressVPN won’t let you down. It’s fast, has servers in 105 countries, and works with Cash App and streaming services such as Netflix. User-friendly VPN with strong security and quality customer support, 24/7. 30-day money-back guarantee.

CyberGhost certainly stands out for its very large network of servers. This now stands at over 11,000 servers in 100+ countries, including more than 2,000 in the US and UK combined. This provides numerous benefits. For example, you’re more likely to be able to find a fast, low-load server nearer your physical location. It also means you can access a wider range of geo-blocked websites and services.

This provider regularly places well in our industry-wide speed testing. This time, however, we were more interested in the performance of its US servers. We ran multiple tests over the course of a typical day, noting down their speeds and checking how much (if any) variablity there was during peak times. See for yourself:
CyberGhost managed to deliver high speeds throughout the day, with an average of 142.53 Mbps. In real terms, this is quick enough to watch 4K video, torrent, and make video calls without any interruption. Needless to say, its speeds are well above what’s required for using Cash App.
This is a strict no-logs service with plenty of security features that come in handy when using Cash App. There’s 256-bit AES encryption, DNS and IPv6 leak protection, and an automatic kill switch. Notably, CyberGhost also offers a Windows security suite. This includes antivirus and anti-malware features, particularly good for avoiding those common Cash App scams. With CyberGhost, you can secure up to seven of your devices at the same time. You’ll also have access to its live chat and email support 24 hours a day.
CyberGhost offers apps for the following: Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Linux, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV. Chrome and Firefox browser extensions are also available. However, to use CyberGhost with a wireless router, you’ll need to manually configure the connection.
Buy this VPN if:
- You want the longest money-back guarantee period (45 days)
- You want access to a massive server network (11,000+ in 100+ countries)
- You need a Windows security suite with antivirus/anti-malware
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You need to access Cash App from China
- You’re a power user who needs extensive customization options
HUGE SERVER NETWORK:CyberGhost offers over 11,000 servers in 100+ countries. Fastest speeds of any VPN we’ve tested. Use it with Cash App as well as Netflix US from abroad. Strict no-logs policy and an antivirus for Windows. 45-day money-back guarantee.

PrivateVPN is as reliable as you can get when it comes to bypassing geographic restrictions on content. Not only does it work with Cash App, but you’ll be able to stream everything from Netflix to Amazon Prime Video while on vacation. It has a smaller network of servers but this number is more than enough for the number of users served. This is evident in PrivateVPN’s high-speed connections. It won’t throttle your bandwidth, so you can stream without restriction.

Let’s address the elephant in the room for a second. PrivateVPN has never been the fastest provider on the market. However, it’s still worth using. We know from our years of experience that this is one of the most reliable providers out there. Let’s see how fast its US servers were this time around:
PrivateVPN was able to provide an average speed of 49.87 Mbps, with around 10 Mbps of difference between its highest and lowest results. Is there room for improvement? Absolutely. That said, these speeds are still more than you’ll need to use Cash App, stream 4K video, or play online games, so it’d be a mistake to write it off without trying it for yourself.
We’ve tested PrivateVPN’s support for ourselves and found it to be among the best. Indeed, its email support is almost as fast as its live chat. This VPN is highly suitable for beginners thanks to the easy-to-use apps. Security is made up of 256-bit AES encryption, DNS leak protection, and a kill switch. Unlike many VPNs, PrivateVPN has a true no-logs policy. This means that it doesn’t even keep connection logs. It also accepts payment in Bitcoin.
To use PrivateVPN, download and install one of its apps for Windows, Mac, Android, or iOS. Alternatively, you can manually set up PrivateVPN to work with Linux or your wifi router.
Buy this VPN if:
- You want exceptionally responsive email customer support
- You want the option to pay anonymously with Bitcoin
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You want a large server network (only 200+ servers)
- You need high speeds
BEGINNER-FRIENDLY:PrivateVPN provides apps that are easy to use and is highly adept at bypassing geographic restrictions. High-speed connections and unlimited bandwidth as well as privacy protection with its true no-logs policy. 30-day money-back guarantee.

Methodology: How we found the best VPNs for use with Cash App
Though there are a huge number of VPN providers on the market, they don’t all offer the same level of service, and they’re not all suited for use with Cash App. Indeed, there are various factors to take into consideration when choosing a VPN. Below, you can find out a little more about our methodology:
Speed
Speed is one of the most important factors to consider when shopping for a VPN. That’s because it effectively determines how easy your browsing experience is, with sluggish providers taking forever to load even the most basic websites and apps. Tasks like streaming or torrenting become nigh-impossible if your speeds are too slow, which is why it’s so vital we only recommend the quickest VPNs around.
So what’s our testing process? We tried each VPN’s US servers at three times of day: once in the morning, once at noon, and once in the afternoon. We used a 250 Mbps connection since that’s the average American broadband speed. When all tests were complete, we normalized the average speed of each service to get a score out of 10 for each provider:
NordVPN had the highest average speed and achieved a perfect ten points in this category. Surfshark was close behind, with 9.5 points, while IPVanish took third place. Despite their varied performances, each VPN in this list was fast enough for everyday browsing and online banking via Cash App.
Network
Next, we carefully considered each VPN’s network. First, we looked into how many countries they supported (and how many servers were in each location, if that data was available). Next up, we specifically checked out how many different locations they offered in the UK and US, since you’ll need a server from one of these places to actually use Cash App. Finally, scores were averaged and normalized, giving us a rating out of 10, as shown below:
ExpressVPN took the top spot here, scoring 8.8 points. It had quite a few more British and American server locations than its rivals and earned a high enough score in the network size subcategory to propel it to the top of our rankings.
Security and privacy
A VPN that can’t adequately protect your privacy and shield your activities from snoopers isn’t worth bothering with. We’ve analyzed more than 140 VPN logging policies to make sure only the services that put your anonymity first make the cut. We also look into whether they offer unbreakable encryption, a kill switch, DNS leak protection, and various other advanced features. You’ll find our full judging criteria in the table below:
Feature | NordVPN | Surfshark | IPVanish | ExpressVPN | CyberGhost | PrivateVPN |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

If you find the technial termsa above a little overwhemling, don’t worry. We’ve assigned scores based on how well each VPN performed security-wise and put these into an easily-understandable chart. Here’s how our top providers stacked up:
NordVPN and Surfshark each scored 9.5 points and so share the top spot here. We’d prefer if Surfshark was based outside of a Nine Eyes country but it doesn’t matter too much thanks to its otherwise outstanding security offering. NordVPN, meanwhile, could do with shoring up its authentication slightly.
Ease of use
We believe that everyone should be able to keep themselves safe online, which is why we’re so fond of services that go out of their way to remain accessible to novices. They might allow unlimited connections, provide 24-hour access to customer support, or simply offer a streamlined experience using the apps. Here are the main areas we focused on when assigning ease of use scores:
Feature | NordVPN | Surfshark | IPVanish | ExpressVPN | CyberGhost | PrivateVPN |

Once again, NordVPN came in first. We found it extremely simple and straightforward from registration to actually using the service. That’s no small feat given how much advanced functionality is packed into its app. ExpressVPN also ranked very highly since it takes care of obfuscation automatically.
Streaming ability
Sooner or later, you’re probably going to want to access another geo-blocked service and the vast majority of these are streaming platforms. Here at Comparitech, we personally verify whether our top providers are capable of accessing major streaming sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and BBC iPlayer. We also pay close attention to whether every server works or if we had to try multiple to find one that could actually unblock a given service.

Using a VPN with Cash App: FAQs
Can I use a free VPN with Cash App?
Not all VPNs work with Cash App so you may struggle to find a free VPN that’s compatible. Free VPNs usually offer fewer servers and IP addresses. They also attract a lot of users so the few available IP addresses quickly become blacklisted by geo-blocked websites. Another reason we don’t recommend you use a free VPN with Cash App is that you may not be getting sufficient security. In some cases, data won’t be properly encrypted, or the VPN might log your activity and sell personal data to third parties.
Is it legal to use a VPN with Cash App?
It’s not illegal to use a VPN with Cash App. The Cash App Terms of Service doesn’t specifically refer to VPNs although it does state that you “must be a resident of the United States” or UK. Furthermore, it says “You must not attempt to use the Virtual Currency Services, such as by obscuring your IP address or submitting any inaccurate information regarding your location”. Cash App also reserves the right to suspend your account. As such, there’s an element of risk in using a VPN with Cash App. However, if you’re a US or UK resident and you’re only away for a short time, you’ll probably be okay.
